President Donald Trump signed an executive order on 28 August to begin establishing a United States Space Academy, NASA reported.

A presidential commission is to recommend arrangements including governance, location, legislative needs and obligations for graduates. Its report is due within 120 days of the signing.

The proposed institution would combine technical education with leadership training. The announcement sets out a planning process; it is not an announcement that the academy has opened.
