Britain is preparing a legal resettlement route prioritising Afghan women and girls and Palestinians, according to The Guardian. Home secretary Shabana Mahmood is expected to announce the reopening of a scheme intended to give vulnerable refugees a quicker route to permanent status.
The plan follows the closure of an Afghan resettlement programme last year. Refugee organisations and immigration specialists told the newspaper that the number of places would be too small to substantially discourage dangerous Channel crossings.
