Swiss voters have rejected a proposal that would have restricted the country’s ability to impose sanctions without United Nations approval. BBC News reports that more than 70% voted against the initiative, which would also have limited closer cooperation with NATO.
The proposal was backed by the Swiss People’s Party and opposed by the federal government and other major parties. The result leaves Switzerland’s existing approach intact, amid continuing debate over neutrality following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
