Bangladesh Prime Minister Tarique Rahman is expected to embark on a four-day official visit to Japan on October 26, with trade, investment and economic cooperation high on the agenda.
State Minister for Foreign Affairs Humaiun Kobir said the upcoming visit would focus on strengthening bilateral relations, expanding economic partnerships and attracting greater Japanese investment to Bangladesh.
Speaking to reporters after a seminar titled “From Workforce to Strategic Partnership: Reimagining Bangladesh-KSA Relations” at the Foreign Service Academy, Kobir highlighted Japan's longstanding role as a major development partner of Bangladesh.
He noted that Japanese investment in several major infrastructure projects had significantly contributed to Bangladesh's economic development and strengthened ties between the two countries.
During the visit, both sides are expected to hold detailed discussions on sector-specific cooperation, development partnerships and opportunities for mutual investment.
The state minister also recalled that Prime Minister Tarique Rahman had previously participated virtually in an energy summit in Japan at the invitation of the Japanese prime minister.
According to Kobir, that engagement helped strengthen the Japanese government's confidence in Bangladesh's leadership.
Meanwhile, the state minister confirmed that Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman had also invited Tarique Rahman to visit Saudi Arabia and that the prime minister had accepted the invitation.
He added that the Saudi crown prince had expressed interest in visiting Bangladesh.
Responding to a question about the protection of the holy cities of Makkah and Madinah, Kobir said Bangladesh remained ready to provide necessary support if requested.
He emphasised that Bangladesh, as one of the world's largest Muslim-majority countries, would consider extending assistance if its cooperation were sought.
The anticipated Japan visit is expected to create further opportunities for Bangladesh to strengthen diplomatic engagement, attract foreign investment and expand economic cooperation with one of its key Asian partners.
