WHO has issued its first strategy to improve the market for childhood cancer medicines, setting out ten interventions for 2026–2030. The publication was released on 15 September.
The agency identifies unreliable supply, affordability and access to quality-assured medicines as barriers to treatment. Its plan includes pooled purchasing, better demand forecasts and more sustainable financing.
The proposed steps begin with stabilising supply and bringing demand together, followed by measures to strengthen market sustainability and support innovation. WHO presents the plan as a way to reduce differences in childhood cancer survival.
