Shared-bike operator Lime has reported a sharp increase in UK profits as more riders use its services in England, The Guardian reports. Its accounts show profits rising from £1.7 million to £4.7 million following expansion into additional cities.

The business relies substantially on contractors to maintain and reposition bikes. Its growth comes alongside debate about pavement parking and safety, while new licensing powers allow English local authorities to set standards for rental-bike operators.
