United Nations-verified attacks on schools rose to 1,680 in 2025, a 33 per cent increase from the previous year, UNESCO said in a September statement.

The organisation called for stronger protection of education and support to keep children learning through conflict and displacement. Its response includes preparedness, continuity of lessons and recovery after emergencies.

The figures describe verified incidents in 2025, rather than a count of attacks during the current month.
