The Dhaka school visits described by UNESCO show that learning can be disrupted before a student reaches a desk. Waterlogged approaches and extreme heat can matter as much as the condition of a classroom.
The planning implication is to consider access routes, usable learning spaces and continuity arrangements together. A repair programme that examines buildings alone may overlook those connections.
This interpretation concerns the issues raised in three visited institutions. It should not be read as a nationwide assessment of Bangladesh’s schools.
